10 Questions to Inspire

The Encoded Self created for “What’s in the Box” exhibit

Years ago, I created a painting for a gallery show titled, “What’s in the Box?” It was so much fun to work on. First, I painted the image of a box, attached a handle so viewers could open it. Inside was a cassette tape box with the tape undone and showing up inside that cassette box and outside of the inner box.

In thinking of that experience, I decided to generate a list of 10 questions to share, asking: ‘What…’ (‘s). Whether you paint, draw, write, dance, or compose music, let one or more of these inspire you in your chosen art form. Have fun with it.

questions to play with…

  1. What’s in the box?

  2. What got swept under the rug?

  3. What’s on the other side of the fence?

  4. What’s invisible to the naked eye?

  5. What moves you?

  6. What’s easier said than done?

  7. What’s up?

  8. What’s beyond my control?

  9. What’s stranger than fiction?

  10. What’s on the other side of the mountain?

And maybe this will inspire thoughts of other questions. Please share any additional ideas that come to mind.
