“Release” is a one of the small works on canvas within the Elements series. I began each of these with a word or concept, then painted the background color before adding ink, papers, and cloth Elements. This painting was created to represent the process of letting go of the old thoughts, beliefs, and reactions that no longer serve us but may have served us in the past. The handwritten and barely seen words within the painting are from my writings, as follows:
“Releasing the unneeded.
What rises in its place?
Openness and the quiet voice of wisdom.
Listening in that quiet place, in the presence, the voice rises.”
The sides of the canvas are textured and painted to match the rest of the background. The signature and date appear on the side.
