NOW is the first in a new group of small works on canvas within the Elements series. I’m beginning each of these with a word or concept, then painting the background color before adding ink, papers, and cloth Elements. There is a handwritten quote that barely shows through beneath the paint. It’s a quote by Meister Eckhart…
“There exists only the present instant... a Now which always and without end is itself new. There is no yesterday nor any tomorrow, but only Now, as it was a thousand years ago and as it will be a thousand years hence.”
The sides of the canvas are textured and painted to match the rest of the background. The signature and date appear on the side.
