Levels is the second painting in the Elements series, inspired by the concertina pages, yet so very different. Unlike the others in the series, I began this one by cutting out paper shapes (circles, lines, and squares) to play with possible layouts. I chose the initial layout before creating the painting. Then I made some adjustments as the painted image developed.
The sides of the canvas are textured and painted to match the rest of the background. The signature and date appear on the side.
